Phew! You made it! That first step of asking for help can be a tough one! I congratulate you on your courage. Many people never take that step and suffer needlessly. What's causing you pain right now? Panic attacks? Depression? Fear? I understand. When stress gets too high, it has to show up somewhere and often these are the ways it shows up. If you've been struggling to just get through your day, you know the pain of NOT doing something about it. It's likely affecting your confidence, your relationships, your work or school. It doesn't have to be that way! It's possible to live a life without constant fear and fatigue. I specialize in working with women with anxiety, depression and low self esteem. Anxiety can be a general sense of uneasiness all the way to having obsessions and compulsions to full blown panic attacks. The fear that overwhelms you with anxiety feels very dangerous, but it's not. It's really your mind and body trying to cope with life from a very primitive level--fight or flight. But it makes you exhausted, unable to concentrate, isolated, and can even land you in the emergency room with what feels very much like a heart attack. How would your life be different if anxiety was no longer scaring you? Depression can be mild (everyday feeling low, having little motivation) to moderate (skipping work because you just can't get going in the morning, canceling events because nothing sounds like fun anymore) to severe (thoughts of ending your own life because life has lost all joy and you can't get out of bed, nor do you want to). If your depression is severe, you need counseling in a safe setting, maybe a hospital, or several times a week in a counselor's office. But if you fit mild to moderate, this may be a good place for you to get help. I have been helping women cope with depression for more than 30 years and I would be honored to help you. Please don't give up! You can have a great life! I challenge you to imagine a life free from depression... Maybe you're just trying to sort out some big life situations, like making decisions about your relationships or coping with the empty nest issue. Maybe your grown kids are causing you some pain. I have three grown kids with kids of their own. I get it. I can help. If you've grown up in a home that hasn't taught you how incredible you are, or you've been through some challenging relationships in which you've been emotionally beaten down, you may be suffering with low self-esteem. This is a very real issue, and not at all uncommon in women. I watch women every day in my practice gain strength and courage and confidence. They begin challenging those lies they've been fed and start spending time with people who support them and lift them up. It's an amazing transformation! This could be YOU! Oh, and for reassurance, I am a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor with a private practice in Orlando, Florida. I graduated from University of Central Florida with both my undergraduate psychology degree and my master's degree in Counselor Education. I started practicing counseling in the early 1980s and have loved it ever since then :-) My reward is your healing! As a strong Christian, I have many online clients whom I get to help seek God's wisdom as the main basis for their healing. I'm a leader in my church; I am a volunteer and facilitate a small group. If you're wanting your counseling to line up with God's word, I can help! Don't suffer any longer. Give this a try. I look forward to hearing from you. Connie

Hi. I’m Margaret Doman. I am a licensed clinical social worker. My professional training was with an emphasis in clinical social work with individuals and families, with the utilization of psychodynamic processing and therapeutic counseling models including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotional Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy among others. From my professional experience, I bring over 34 years of experience working with people in the helping professions, including over 17 years as a clinical social worker. I have worked directly with clients of all ages, children through adolescents and adults, in a variety of settings. I have worked with clients with a variety of presenting issues and dilemmas, including depression, anxiety and stress, anger management, grief and loss, marital and relationship discord, family and parenting difficulties, trauma and emotional abuse, and mental health disorders. I have worked indirectly as a Clinical Supervisor over children's mental health programs which provided therapeutic and case management services to children who suffered displacement, separation, trauma neglect and abuse and accompanying behavioral and mental health issues. I have worked as a Program Director of an outpatient substance abuse treatment program. I have worked as a program supervisor over an adolescent respite and treatment program providing shelter, behavior modification, and individual and family counseling for troubled teens. From my personal experience I bring decades of experience, including living and working within a variety of cultures, and religious and ethnic communities, making me aware and sensitive to the nuances of individuals’ diversity and challenges. As a social worker I recognize that life, with all its possible joys and wonderment, presents us with many varied challenges and barriers to being and feeling fulfilled, happy, content, satisfied, or good and at peace with our lives and the relationships that we desire, seek, and pursue. For the most part we cope and manage to come out on top; however, life can also overwhelm us and we might find ourselves in an ever-increasing downward spiral of unhappiness, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, problems with life and relationships, and maybe a general sense of futility and hopelessness. I believe in a holistic approach to mental health therapy, taking into consideration all aspects of being a person in their particular unique environment and circumstance. My therapeutic approach is strength-based, using eclectic therapeutic techniques, providing a supportive counseling relationship, whereby you can explore and gain understanding and insights to drive your resolve, action plan, change, and growth towards that stronger, happier, functional, fulfilled you!

I am a bilingual (English, Spanish) Licensed Clinical Psychologist based in Miami-Dade County, Florida. I also have a Master of Arts in Marital and Family Therapy. My experience comes from providing direct mental health services for children, teens, adults, and couples with a variety of presenting issues including anxiety, depression, relationship and/or family issues, grief, trauma, multicultural concerns/difficulties, coping with medical diagnoses, and gender/sexual identity. The therapeutic relationship is the foundation for progress throughout the course of services. That said, I approach psychotherapy through a biopsychosocial lens that encompasses the entirety of the individual. My clinical experience spans from working with adults diagnosed with chronic medical conditions, children/adolescents with interpersonal difficulties, academic difficulties, and adjustment issues, as well as couples experiencing relationship issues. Working in South Florida has provided me with the opportunity to work with individuals from a variety of different cultures and religions; thus, it is important for me to incorporate one’s cultural identity into mental health services. My experience providing mental health services ranges across settings. Although most of my work has been in hospitals and community mental health centers, I have worked in the school system, at rehabilitation jails, and in the community conducting in-home psychotherapy services. Given my background in systems, I truly believe that one’s environment is crucial in their mental health journey. My treatment modality/approach is predominantly Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I like to incorporate psychodynamic theory (Object-Relations) and/or family systems (Bowenian, Structural) depending on the individual and the presenting problem. At the end of the day, I believe that psychotherapy is a collaborative process and relationship in which you are the expert on you. My hope is that we can work towards identified goals and improved quality of life.

I am a licensed psychologist in Florida with about 12 years of professional work experience. I help people who experience stress and anxiety, coping with grief and loss, as well as depression and those who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorders. I provide clinical “holistic psychotherapy” for individuals. My early training is in behavioral medicine (an interdisciplinary field that studies the connections between the mind, the body, and the emotions). Through the years, I expanded my training towards a “spiritual integrative approach to psychotherapy.” This includes the application of techniques like mindfulness and meditation, among others. It is my belief that each person deserves a respectful consideration of their path of self-examination, and it is my position is to recognize, and adjust my treatment approach to this and your path. In general terms, I assist people to identify and understand the origin of their symptoms by exploring behavioral, cognitive, and emotional patterns, that may identify a.) lifestyle (physicality, exercise, drug use, sleeping patterns, etc.), b.) core beliefs or “negative programming,” c.) moderate to severe emotional fluctuations, and d.) other manifestations that may arise. My goal is for you to experience greater self-awareness and clarity at all levels, which will afford you new ways and skills for dealing with the concerns and issues that brought you here. I usually work with people at a minimum frequency of once per week, but other arrangements can be agreed upon based on progress and other reasons. I usually begin our first meeting with a consultation. During this session, we will clarify your needs and presenting issues; discuss relevant personal and family history; and explore the 'fit' between us. At the conclusion of this session, I will share my initial impressions about your presenting problems and my ideas about how we should continue our relationship. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialogue and your treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and you should be proud of yourself for getting started!

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Some of the most commonly asked questions about therapy can be found in the section below.

How much does therapy with a licensed therapist cost?

Mental health professionals can differ in price. Forbes found that the average cost of in-person Florida therapy in the US is around $100 to $200 per hour. Pricing can also vary based on your location.

BetterHelp offers payment plans of $65 to $100 per week. You can also take advantage of this pricing on one of BetterHelp's sister platforms, like ReGain for couples or TeenCounseling for teens aged 13 to 19.

Is it possible to find a therapist, counselor, or psychology practitioner that offers affordable therapy?

Many therapists may be upfront about their pricing and whether or not they take health insurance from the beginning. Additionally, some in your area may offer a sliding scale plan to allow those with lower incomes to pay less for therapy. However, services online can often save individuals a few hundred dollars per month.

When should I get a therapist in Florida?

Mental health services and mental health providers may help you navigate various concerns. You do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy; You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general advice. A counselor may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

What can a psychologist help me with in therapy?

Mental health issues don't always present as a crisis. Many professionals provide talk therapy and support for life transitions, skills learning, relationship problems, or life coaching. Online therapy sessions can allow clients seeking therapy to experience professional help through video, phone, or live chat sessions without commuting to an office.

Does insurance cover the cost of in-person or online therapy with a therapist in Florida?

Different counseling services can vary in cost. Therapists must apply to accept insurance through insurance companies, which may take time and money, so not every therapist offers services through insurance. If you cannot find a therapist that accepts your plan, BetterHelp may be cheaper than visiting an in-person therapist.

Are online therapy sessions the safe option?

Online therapy through BetterHelp and its sister platforms is safe. Therapists are licensed, experienced, and vetted before being contracted with the platform. If you experience any concerns with your therapist, you change your counselor through the platform or app at any time.

In today's fast-paced society, mental well-being has become a cornerstone of a fulfilling life. Amid the daily challenges and stressors that can overwhelm even the most resilient individuals, seeking professional guidance often offers a path to clarity and balance. The journey toward improved emotional health involves understanding personal triggers, embracing self-compassion, and developing effective coping strategies. While self-help books and online resources provide valuable information, nothing compares to the personalized support offered by a qualified mental health professional. One-on-one sessions with experienced experts can help uncover the underlying issues contributing to anxiety, depression, or other emotional hurdles. With a careful and empathetic approach, these professionals tailor their advice to suit individual needs, ensuring that each person receives strategies that work best for their unique circumstances. Whether through cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness practices, or other innovative methods, the aim is to foster resilience and empower individuals to take control of their inner lives. For those living in bustling urban centers, engaging in face-to-face sessions in a welcoming environment can be particularly beneficial. Access to a caring clinician provides not only a safe space to explore difficult emotions but also builds a support network essential for long-term recovery. The process encourages self-reflection and greater insight into behavioral patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed. While the journey can be challenging at times, the rewards include enhanced emotional stability, improved interpersonal relationships, and a renewed sense of self-worth. In one notable case, the guidance provided by a highly trained therapist proved instrumental in navigating a tumultuous period. Through structured sessions and tailored interventions, the individual learned to identify stressors and develop healthier responses to adversity. This experience underscored the transformative impact that dedicated support can have on one's overall quality of life. In a region like Texas, community-based initiatives and accessible mental health programs further reinforce the value of professional help. These efforts emphasize early intervention, preventive care, and continuous support, ensuring that more people are equipped to face life's inevitable challenges. Ultimately, investing in mental well-being is an act of self-care that yields lifelong benefits. By embracing professional support, individuals can unlock new levels of emotional resilience and discover pathways to a brighter, more balanced future. Each step taken toward healing represents a commitment to personal growth, enabling a life filled with renewed optimism and strength. Embracing this transformative journey consistently paves the way for deeper understanding, lasting peace, and meaningful personal progress.
